Azure Noir Velvet Kimono Set

A belted kimono jacket in velvet dark enough to photograph as black, with azure piping tracing every edge, worn over a straight trouser cut from the same cloth.

The piping is the detail worth attention. It follows the front opening, the cuff and the belt, and because velvet absorbs light while the piping reflects it, the outline of the jacket stays legible even in a badly lit room. Most dark velvet disappears in photographs. This does not.

The pile is dense and low, which resists the flattening that ruins cheaper velvet at the elbow and the seat. Press on the reverse with a cool iron if it ever needs it, and the piping keeps its colour through cleaning.

Belted, it makes a shape. Open over a plain black column, it makes a different one. Both were intended.
